Google IM Client

AIM is an ad-ridden POS, it actually crashes some of my online games or makes me lag now, it loads streaming video ads whenever it pleases, i have to use deadaim just to avoid the BS.

At least in the US. It's so old and has so little features but the only reason why I still use it is because everyone else uses it.

The 4,100-employee company that the three computer scientists have built has maintained a marked predisposition toward building and not buying its future. Indeed, its acquisitions to date have exclusively been of small technology start-ups led by designers whom Google wanted to hire.

That is a marked contrast to its two main competitors, the Microsoft Corporation and Yahoo, which have recently turned to high-profile acquisitions to enter new markets.
lol, you have to admire the spin Google is able to put on things in the media. Because they wanted to hire the designers, it's not about them buying other people's IP, no, of course not. As opposed to those ruffians Microsoft and Yahoo who need to hand over cash to get the goods...

I agree, I don't think that google is any less money hungry than MSFT, but they seem to generate money without seeming as obtrusive as Microsoft or other companies.

Who cares. It's not like they will advertise your personal life. Unless you're discussing terrorist, pedophilic, or any other accounts of extremely disturbing activities, you don't have much to worry about.

Yeah, I don't really care, as I don't have anything to hide anyway. But someone was going to say it, so I thought I would play the devil's advocate and go with the privacy point. 😛

While I think its important to not give up all privacy, I think that the fact that a computer can see the word "lawnmower" on the page and change ads accordingly is a pretty non-intrusive price to pay for free email...

no one seemed to recall the space elevator.
The elevator - a fanciful alternative to rocket boosters to reach earth orbit - is one of the dozens of business ideas that have been considered by the company's wide-eyed founders

Fvck the IM client.... I want to ride the Space Elevator 😛

AIM does kinda blow, but majority rules.

DeamAIM softens the blow a bit though. 🙂

I don't use the new versions of AIM though. I absolutly hate the new versions. I use 5.5.3595.

AIM??? Are you kidding me?
Its like the worst ever! Its born for pop-up's

What are you talking about? I've never received a popup using AIM. I've tried the other IM clients and don't care for them. I'll stick with AIM until it dies.

EDIT: According to a Slashdot article on the 14th it is all rumors about Google getting into the IM market.

You seem to forget the little bit of news about AOL claiming to own all of your AIM conversations and to use them for whatever purpose they so desire.
