Anyway augmented reality sure sounds cool for driving, right now it's already a reality with the backup camera, there's an overlay that lets you see where you're going, and some cars have a camera that outlines warm people on the road. Moving this from the console to the field of view while driving is a very good thing, and it would cost less than putting it on the windshield for sure.

I would really like to see it on windshield technology. Garmin has their $130 HUD GPS/speedometer unit out and GM and some other places were goofing around with that technology:

Would be neat to have 3D overlaid GPS directions, outlines of peope & animals, especially in the dark, and outlines of the road, especially in poor-weather & foggy conditions. Along with a radar system like they're using now for adaptive cruise control type of stuff, it could paint the car ahead of you on the windshield even if it's like 100% fog outside.
