I saw this post on another board and I think it describes my thoughts on it perfectly

"
Stop and think about this guys. What we're seeing now is basically this:

Imagine whats going to happen in our lifetimes with something like this.

It's very exciting."

Cool video, I was hoping to see more of the informational side, as opposed to the video/picture side. Things like identifying building or landmarks, or navigation.

The technology is definitely sweet, and has potential.

They actually did have navigation for 2 shots. One was a man directing someone in a car and you could see Google Nav in the top left, and the other was a skier going down a slope with the map/nav of that.

I'm so very, very excited for this.

An entire generation will once again be able to lift its head and look where it's walking...

....while looking like they're continuously scratching their head... (using swipe gestures on the frames). :p

When I first saw the video this morning, I was blown away. Then I watched it couple more times and realized it's not as impressive as it looks. But I could see this useful for certain fields and industries. Maybe after about 5 years and the product matures and drops down in price I might get one. But it's easy to see where they got the idea for Google Now. I'll buy the glasses for $200.

Glass is interesting, but still far below its potential. I'm still hoping to see something more like augmented reality from a head mounted device. Instead we get a little notification screen and a wearable camera.

Not all of us are interested in walking around like your avatar. ;)

So... I thought that Google glass had no cellular access. So I'm wondering if you require a wifi connection to make voice commands like that?

It might be built into the device and then paired with your bluetooth enabled phone to have internet access/get info. Essentially, it might actually use your phone's GPS/LTE to get any kind of signal.

I'm wondering if Google Glass will be a form of a smartwatch then again for a $1500 asking price, I highly doubt they didn't implement features that should be there (bluetooth, GPS, wireless, etc).

These are my thoughts as well. Based on that video, it seems very much pointless. I'm sure some functionality will come along that will make it more useful, but I'm not seeing anything that I need to wear this thing on my head at all times. The weather/time/texting stuff I find to be pointless if you already have a cell phone...I personally don't need that info in front of me at all times. Recording the video would be nice, could give the GoPro a run for its money if the resolution/quality is good enough.

Right now, Google Glass gets a big "meh" from me.

This is, at best, the Palm Treo generation version. Can we skip forward straight to the Note 2 generation?

But it's still the most exciting product of the year by far. So many new uses. Let's hope it plays well with the portable computers we already carry in our pockets.

Yeah I guess the incremental step towards wearable computing would require some central "server" on your body with all your accessories tied to it. That would match the Glass + smartphone combo we have here.

It can pair with your phone.

Also, Google Now/ Voice commands have offline support.

Yeah for "take a picture / record a video", offline support I get. But not "google pictures of tiger heads / hang out with the flying club / send a message".

But yeah, as dlock13 mentioned, most of the user experience will probably rely on having a smartphone with a data connection nearby.

Well there are those rumors of Google trying to launch a data network to compete with the carriers. If that were to ever happen...

Google Glass is going to enable the next generation of cataloging the human experience.

Watching this video makes you understand why their share price broke $800 recently while Apple plummeted. Google is the one creating new markets while Apple is busy one-upping Kickstarter ideas (iWatch?) so they can sell you an expensive iPhone accessory.

When the technology gets to the point they can integrate this into standard eyeglasses (since I already wear glasses) I am so on.

I'd like an alternative method of interaction other than voice though, maybe toe pedals (most commonly used to count cards in casinos :D) or retina tracking?

So it looks like I was right. It'll tether to your phone via bluetooth to access your info and use wireless when you're on the go. The Verge just did a report on the device, and my god, that thing looks amazing. I don't care if I look like a freaking lunatic with it on. I don't care if I don't have many purposes for always having info at my hands. That is something I want without a doubt in my mind.

Also, it uses WiFi when you're in range and will use your 3G/4G connection when not. It has a built in GPS unit as well. They didn't mention anything about the battery, and that is to be expected honestly. I feel like they won't release that information until Q4 when they're aiming for CONSUMER release. Also, one more thing I want to mention, I feel as though by the time this is released, it'll be an extremely efficient, quality product. They're focused on design. They'll be working with Motorola on phones so I'm assuming they'll try and get an understanding on low-power use thanks to Motorola's focus on battery life. Also, bluetooth 4.0 is already low power so maybe 4.X/5 could possibly be in the mix to improve battery life.

I'm freaking stoked.

Here's the Verge's write up.

Ah I can't wait! I'm more excited about Glass than I have been about any other electronic gadget launch. Q4 can't come soon enough.
