Google Earth - how to stop the "swoop" feature?

I want to take a close-to-ground look at hiking trails for backpacking trips.

In Google Earth it "swoops" to a slanted side view when I scope down for a close look.

To quote an oldie by Sania Twain, "Man, I hate that!"

It's almost like some fool in Google assumed everyone would like a pretty fake side view of buildings. NO!

How can I stop GE from swooping to a slanted side view when increasing magnification, so I can get a closer look at the trails? Already tried deselecting most of the options in GE.

Go to Preferences, then Navigation, and deselect "automatically tilt and enter ground level view".

Fardringle,
Thank you for answering.

Your post led me to the answer, so THANK YOU!

However, in my installation of free GE 7.1.1.1888 on Windows 7 no "Preferences" menu exists.

Under Tools / Options / Navigation there's a radio button for "Do not automatically tilt while zooming" and deselecting that did what I wanted!

I only post this explanation for posterity in case the next guy is searching for same answer.
Again, thank you for helping me get to the solution.
