Google Desktop where art thou?

I've been trying to stick with Google through all of this but I'm getting sick of the lack of updates.

For example, it does a great job indexing my email but I can't tell it to NOT index my Spam folder, it doesn't index some files until AFTER you open them, and it STILL isn't password protected.

I imagine Google could make fixes within seconds but I guess they're getting lazy. Can someone recommend an alternative desktop search?

That's a shame you have to bump your own thread.

But to actually reply: I read that MSN released a non-beta of its desktop search engine. I'm sure that Google is gearing up to counter this "threat."

I think it sucks. The modus operandi for web searching does not work and is too incomplete for desktop searching.

I prefer copernic (indexes thunderbird) but also use yahoo on another machine.
