Google Desktop is gone, now what?

I have a mix of systems, some XP Pro, some W7/64. I can live with W7 search, but with Google dropping support for Destop I need something for my XP systems and I would prefer to use the same tool on all systems so indexes work between them.

Cooperation with Thunderbird email, and search via MP3 tags fairly necessary.

Free is good, but I'd pay for something worth it.

Looked at Everything from void, but it doesn't do content.

Looked at Copernic, downloading now to try, but still open to suggestions.

Won't GoogleDesktop still work? You won't get updates, but if you're happy with the way it works now... XP will die eventually, and you can retire Google then.

Had an error message this afternoon, standard fix is total uninstall and reinstall. After the uninstall I found out google turned off downloads last month. Failing to index my Thunderbird email was a major pain too, as I have some HUGE email archives with text info in them.
