Google Desktop 2

I didn't like the first one much. I pretty much know where my files are. This one looks like the original search plus features like News, Weather, etc...seems like a Konfabulator/Stardock ripoff. But since it's google, I bet it'll be better than those lol. Anyone use it yet?

not for me ....

It indexes and makes another 'cache file' to deal with ...
Seems you can't clear info from it either ...

Im using it right now. taking alot of memory of cpu power to index. not sure if it iwll stay like that after its done.

i dont need more programs sucking up my memory.

I think the only thing that would really interest me is the weather.

NOW... if someone made a search for IMDB, dictionary.com... things like that.. I'd be all over it.

Maxthon has plugins for searching those sites, firefox probably has them as well.

Yes, Firefox does have plugins for searching those sites, and many others.

This is actually more useful than it first appears. I was about to uninstall it when I went to their website and downloaded some plugins that allow you to have a system monitor and control iTunes from the bar. I have a widescreen monitor so it isn't really annoying. Google, once again, has delivered a simple, sleek program, even though its a total rip-off of OSX's spotlight and Longhorn Alpha's sidebar. It's free, so whatever. I like.

I think Google should make a Linux-based OS that is as user-friendly as a Windows XP or Apple box. Great searching, fast, etc.

Do you have to be online for the Google Desktop search thing to work?

I tried Google Desktop before and I was very disappointed with its performance. It seemed to ignore caching things based on some schedule I could not determine. With such poor performance, I'd rather have nothing than have something I think is working but might not record what I need.

How the %(!& do I get it to launch applications? There are two options:

Search by default
Launch programs/files by default

I selected Launch Programs/files by default, but when I type "notepad" into the little text box, it searches for notepad instead of launching it 😕
