Google contacts really needs tags instead of groups.

What I'd like to do is send an email to a subset of the group that I have saved under a physical location. (eg Running partners in San Diego)

With the current setup, I would need a separate group for that and duplicate all the Runners in San Diego into the general 'San Diego' folder if I want to send a message to everyone. Does that make sense?

Has anyone figured out how to do this in gmail?

Contacts can certainly belong to multiple groups without being duplicated. When you say "duplicated" I assume you mean having to create a "San Diego Runners" group, and adding the appropriate contacts...duplicating the functions of separate "San Diego" and "Runners" groups? ...Not that you're actually creating a duplicate copy of the same contact.

But yeah, seems google's contacts web search doesn't allow any advanced parameters like AND or OR, etc... Maybe a client like thunderbird could do it?

Darn, when I saw the title, I thought this was like Google Glass, just, you know, contacts. I already wear contacts so now I'm disappointed... :| :)
