Google+ Community question

Yesterday I set up a basic Google+ Community for our local YMCA Adventure Guides, (used to be called Indian Guides - Dads doing hiking, camping, canoeing, etc. with their sons) as a companion to our blog.

When I checked the link today, I saw loads of off topic and long winded things that appear to be posted by people that we don't even know, and don't appear to have anything at all to do with our group, its outings or members. You can see what I mean here:

It is fairly annoying to see all of those off topic things, but I am worried that the actual members of our group will be really turned off by the photo comparing Christians to crapping pigeons. Most of our members are churchgoing YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) folks, and I'm worried they will not become involved if they see things like that right away.

That stuff definitely wasn't there yesterday, but it shows up now when I click the link I saved on my toolbar. However, over on the right side I see something that says "Communities", and when I click on our name over there, the "spam" goes away. However, so does the invite I posted to the upcoming Eldora Speedway Family Fun Night. I'm confused at this point, because I made sure I was on the Community page when I posted the event info. Now it isn't showing up under the community page at all, it seems, but only on that link I saved (search), along with the unwanted spam.

Obviously, I'm completely new to Google+ Communities, but this seems very strange to me. The page is supposed to be public but moderated, and last night I did add one of our long time members as a moderator. However, I don't see any way to remove all of that spamlike stuff. Nor do I see any way to make sure that the event info I posted stays under the Community page. Annoying!
