Google.com --> How hard would it be to get a job with them?

Curious, how hard would it be to get a job with Google.com? From what a friend of mine told me who interned at Google, he says that it is near impossible for any Joe Schmuck to get a job there.

Google hires ONLY the best of the best and that applies to eBay.com as well. :-( Well so much for my dream of working at google.. I'm only an average Joe...

Only in Disney movies do dreams come true...

I really doubt that they "only hire the best" (despite what their employment opportunities page says 🙂). Anyway, they have like a million job positions posted here, though I am not sure how many they are actually hiring for.

I have a lot of experience and education and they tossed my resume in the garbage 🙁

I think my friend was offered a job, but turned it down. She's a Ph.D and is specialized in that search engine stuff.

if she specialized in search engine stuff, why did she turn down the Google job?

I saw their job posting at Harvard, it looks a bit tough. I've also been told they only hired the VERY BEST.

damn, my company doesn't have a third of google's benefits/perks!! you can bring your kids/doggie to work! :Q

People probably pay to get their website higher on the list then other websites (When searching for certain websites) and pay bigtime.

Oh and licensing. IIRC, Yahoo uses the Google search engine. I think some other websites do too.

They make search engine server for intranet in a business too.

The place I used to intern at, they bought one. It's in yellow color. It's pretty weird when it put next to all the other black color servers in the server room. heh!

google doesn't compromise searches like that. shame on you.

Google makes money two ways.

First - As someone mentioned, they sell their technology to companies and such.
Second - The ads on the right side of the page (the "sponsored links") that are usually relevant and once in a while return good results, cost $$.

Almost every search engine uses Google. Seriously.

Why would you want to work for google? You will be out of a job. Google will become self-aware soon enough. The time of the machine draws near!

*runs away screaming*
