Google Chrome OS: Could it eventually be converted into a true desktop platform?

If they did that, wouldn't it just be Linux? The whole point of Chrome OS was that it was a stripped-down Linux distro with everything removed but the ability to run Chrome.

They could make it a desktop OS but really there is no point. Android is where it is at for multiple platform support. The amount of apps and devices that use it are growing daily. I can see android becoming a desktop OS before Chrome.

According to wikipedia Google chrome OS= Google chrome + offline media player.

Google will integrate a media player into both Chrome OS and the Chrome browser, enabling users to play back MP3s, view JPEGs, and handle other multimedia files while offline.

This makes me wonder if they will eventually add other offline apps?

Probably and in ~5 years it'll have so many "offline apps" added that it'll just be a full Linux distro with some special Chrome stuff as a shell.
