the former is likely, but the latter... nah.

well now that I think of it desktop chrome has a built in flash player, but given that flash is a dying breed especially for mobile, maybe but maybe not.

This happens to me too, and often the quoted text is significantly larger than the normal text. I usually use tapatalk, but on my tablet I prefer to look at the full site.

if you have access to wifi or 4g there is no reason to use tapatalk.

i use opera on my phone and tab. havent seen this issue

I found tapatalk to me quite useful, not for speed reasons but for layout reasons. The forums are not mobile friendly... lots of panning as it doesn't fit to width right, etc. Plus it's really easy to bounce between forums.

Cause it only makes it slightly easier, but much more ugly.

This. I actually like default ATOT better than Tapatalk. Default ATOT is easy to read from the formatting, Tapatalk just mashes everything together.

It's not really an improvement.

writing/editing text in a text box on android is like trying to eat spaghetti with a spoon. this is why i use tapatalk.

Tapatalk also pisses me off in that it never remembers my 'last read' like the full site does, and tapatalk can't handle gifs nor most images very well.

Find the stock browser from ICS(which was still updated in JB), it's faster and renders better than chrome still. It'd be nice if google focused on one but apparently they're still doing both.

Which browser are you using?
The default android browser reflows text pretty nicely for me:
