Google Chrome and Windows 8

OK - downloaded Google chrome and set it to my default browser in Windows 8. However it only seems to run in "Metro" mode, which sucks balls. I want to be able to see other things on my large screen besides a huge browser window. If I revert IE back to my default browser, then Chrome goes back to working in desktop mode. Is there any way to make Chrome your default browser, but still run is desktop mode?

Overall, I'm happy with Windows 8 only because it was $39 for the Pro version. At that price, and can live with all the quirks 9for now at least - I'm finding more and more quirks the moer I use it, though).

If you run it from the desktop, it should run in desktop mode. If you run it from Metro, it loads the metro version.

Metro mode Chrome? Huh?

I have Chrome and Win8 Pro, and have no idea what you are talking about. I only have, and can only load, Chrome as a desktop app. Launching it from the Start Menu simply throws me to the desktop with Chrome.

Yeh Chrome will only load in Metro mode for me too, I have to go into Desktop and then click the shortcut to get the Desktop to work...

You can only open one browser in metro at any given time....the one you have set as your default browser. Meaning, you can configure it so that IE10 is your default browser and then the Chrome shortcut in metro will open on the desktop, but then you end up with IE10 as your default.

It's been like this for the last couple of preview versions, I don't know if Microsoft intends to fix it or if this is how they wanted it designed. Regardless, it's stupid.

have to restart the computer at least, if end users haven't already done so. the programs seem to offer the better correct features and display more correctly after a system restart.
