Out town changed it's web address back in like October. It still shows the old address in Google. Is there anyway to manually update it or tell them to updated it? I emailed them and they haven't done it yet.
Quick question though. So is the OLD domain name dead or is it still active and your town simply wants to start promoting/using ANOTHER domain instead??
We've had some clients in the past who wanted to change their domain name for branding/image purposes, but because their old domain was still active and (most importantly to Google) still had more links pointing to the old domain name, Google considered the old domain the more popular version and kept pointing to that one when people did a search for that company.
The old address is dead. They never did any forwarding on it. So I want the link to direct to the new address. When you click on it now, it comes up as dead link obviously.
In addition to submitting the new domain to that page I gave you, you might also want to e-mail some of the more 'official' government and agency sites around your region to get some links point up to the town's new web site. That way Google will see that it does indeed have some links pointing to it and it'll give the new domain a bit more creedence.
