So, according to THIS article, Google is removing 1.2 million links per month due to requests. My question is, whats a good alternative? Ive used duckduckgo a few times that seems to be fairly popular.

caveat: Its not that Im looking for illegal content, but rather I prefer an uncensored internet as much as possible.

I use DuckDuckGo. They're mostly an aggregater, but they do run some of their own crawlers. Until we get real copyright reform, it's hard to know what's missing. Censorship is never a good thing.

More like Copyright Infringement take down than censorship:

Google’s senior copyright counsel, Fred von Lohmann, stressed in an interview that the vast majority of the takedown requests are legitimate and come in response to sites offering unauthorized copies of software, entertainment or pornography.

Not sure how taking down sites that are specifically committing crimes is censorship.

I would agree if it was the government doing it. Not that I trust the government any more than our corporate overlords, I just don't like having businesses decide how laws will be enforced.

Microsoft doesn't need a takedown request to block piracy sites... it's in their own best interest to do so.

The sites which they request Google to take down which relate to pirated MS software are available as results when you search on Bing.com.
They ask Google to take things down on their behalf, but don't take those same things down from their own website.
