Google Assistant - sorry I don't understand

I upgraded my phone about 6 months ago to a pixel 6a, and google assistant has been acting wonky for what I really want it to do... Like basic math questions, or converting ounces to liters ... etc...etc....

Like for example, If I ask to do any math problems "hey google what is 2+5" it will say sorry it doesn't understand.

but it will answer all these questions correctly ... from this list...

Personally, I could care less about any of these things, although I have used it to tell me a joke from time to time.

Anyway, it's really getting to me, because I use it to convert stuff and it use to work flawlessly.... I've searched other places and people have reset their phones.

Ugg, I really don't want to reset my phone and install all my apps from scratch and set them all up and remember all the passwords again. Sigh

Anyone have any advice on what to do as I guess if I can't get it resolved, then I'll have to do a factory reset.

I have gone to the apps, and updated all the apps, retrained the voice model, phone is up to date with current android 13.

That sounds super frustrating, especially when you rely on Google Assistant for conversions and math problems. You've taken a lot of the right steps in troubleshooting this.

I doubt any of that is going to help. I don't use google assistant much at all on my phone but use it fairly often on my home mini and what I've found is it seems to be getting worse and worse at doing simple things.

Just today I asked it, "If I set an alarm, how long does it go off" and it tells me "I don't see any alarms set".

Is google going to start integrating more bard functionality or what? Right now, I can't even ask it to play a meatloaf song without it getting that wrong and playing an aerosmith song... long story, I didn't need to hear a meatloaf song myself but someone didn't know who meatloaf was so I had thought google assistant could help... but no.

They probably only want their assistant as a means of gathering info for their marketing and any extra spent on making the AI better isn't furthering that goal, at least not until they start losing enough market share.

well, seems the problem fixed itself, or it could have been that I in a last ditch effort ... I uninstalled a bunch of unused apps and games on my phone. Maybe one of those unused apps was going rouge causing the problem. But now it belts out all the correct answers to my math problems. lol I was about to do a factory reset. I'm more inclined to think that google fixed something rather than me fixing the problem. Shrug.

I use my phone for driving and I think on a new android pixel device you are almost forced to use the assistant. Especially if you want to say "ok google" directions to the nearest costco. Just glad it appears to be working. But it would not surprise me to find out it will play dumb again in a few weeks. Google Weather app, did that to me a few times, it can't seem to connect to get the weather info. Sometimes it would work great then it would stop working, then it would work again for no rhyme or reason.

Google assistant has gone downhill for a lot of people in the last year. Hopefully they are fixing it. It was the best at voice recognition of the big players, but I dunno what they fd up. I've seen a ton of complaints on tech forums.
