Every time I go to http://www.google.com/a the default language is always in Portuguese. Is anyone experiencing the same issue?

If not, I'm trying to figure out why it always defaults to that language.

Well there is a choose your own language thingy... clear your cookies and go back to the site.

Hmm... then I need to do some additional investigation. Google probably uses an IP address or some other setting to pick the default language. If that's the case, then I'm a bit worried because it is a possibility that my packets are being directed to some proxy that is probably based in a Portuguese speaking country (worst case scenario).

I already tried accessing the site using IE and Firefox, and both are defaulting to Portuguese. I just checked my IP using one of those lookup sites, and it's showing Road Runner, so it's probably an application in this laptop.

Did you clear your cookies and your cache?

Do a tracert, are you running through portugal?

Yep, I cleared my cookies and cache. I'm about to do a tracert now and see what happens. This is the resulting last entry before it timed out:
13 55 ms 53 ms 54 ms opendns.demarc.cogentco.com [38.104.56.50]

are you using opendns?

Maybe you're pointing to a foreign DNS server.

Yep, I'm using Open DNS. But domain name servers are only suppose to look up the domain name and find the matching IP address, so your computer can talk to that computer.

Anyway, I did some more searching and stumbled upon this article: http://blog.opendns.com/2007/0...google-turns-the-page/ . It probably is not related to this issue, but I found it interesting because I'm currently using a Dell laptop.

Perhaps OpenDNS is thinking you're from Portugal and sending you to the Portuguese server? Its worth a look into
