Two giants of the mobile phone industry, Apple and Google, have agreed to drop all current patent infringement lawsuits between them, they said Friday.

“Apple and Google have also agreed to work together in some areas of patent reform,” the companies said in a joint statement. They have not agreed to cross-license each other’s patents, however.

Apple’s highest-profile battle with Google began in 2010 when Motorola Mobility filed a patent infringement lawsuit. That move sparked a countersuit from Apple, and the battle continued after Google purchased Motorola Mobility.

The deal does not cover the long-running patent infringement battle between Apple and Samsung, which uses Google’s Android operating system on its phones. Earlier this month, a California jury ruled Samsung should pay Apple $119 million for infringement of several of its patents related to smartphones and tablet PCs.

Bombshell of the evening.

Interesting. So instead of a peace treaty they decide it's better to be in a cold war than a real one? lol

That's Google and Apple...nothing about Samsung or other Android vendor...I think the war is far from over. Much like Microsoft, I think Apple has given up on destroying Android. I think the goal is to extract some sort of licensing fees for the Apple patents. The goal would be to make Android a much more costly OS to use. Android would be "free" from Google, but you'd have to pay a MS tax, then an Apple tax.

This is much smaller than it appears. Basically it terminates the Moto suits/countersuits. Not the Rockstar bullshit or Apple's assault on other Android OEMs.
