Goofy Debian/Gnome problem

Why am I logged off if my system sits for a half hour or so? I come back and its back at the GDM login screen. Is this some weird default behavior?

Sounds wierd to me, but it also sounds like a great feature. Have you tried locking your screen? Or maybe checking some of the logs?

Maybe X is crashing. If you're set to the GUI login runlevel (I think it's 5 on Debian) then if the X11 server dies you get brough back to the login screen again.

It has to be a Gnome/Debian thing. It also did this on Libranet which is basically Debian. If the computer was inactive (no mouse/keyboard input) it would log me off to the GDM screen. X doesn't seem to be crashing. I have not noticed this behaviour using SuSE or Mandrake, which is what makes me think its a Debian thing. The timing seems to be the same as well.

I think you're insane. I'm running Debian testing and Gnome and I don't have that problem 😉

Seriously though, have you checked your X logs to see if anything is up? There's a gdm log too. Check those out. They should be in /var/log/
