WFNX was absolutely the best radio station in boston, introducing and celebrating awesome music, humor and independent thought. this is at least the 4th boston radio station to slip into the long night in a couple years - cbs and clear channel gobbling everything up to spam sportsblab and pop crap :'(

At 7pm on August 29, 1991, WFNX DJ Kurt St. Thomas gave Nirvana's album Nevermind its world premiere over the WFNX airwaves by playing the album from start to finish.

just 1 example of finding great talents from the english-speaking world and celebrating them. sundays' jazz brunch was also a favorite of mine. if it was cool, it was on FNX before it got lame and popular.

the "station" will live on as a streaming site that nobody will listen to. the core talent quit/fired a month ago and set up shop at boston.com's streaming site, but there ain't no replacement for airwaves.

I suspect that the Internet will eventually make all radio & tv stations as they currently exist extinct sometime in our future.

not until the internet is broadcast for free with good reception nearly everywhere to 100's of millions of receivers that can be operated with just a couple buttons and a knob.

Not for awhile. Radio is dirt dirt dirt cheap and works flawlessly on any cars. The entire radio tower networks are doing well across all corners of remote areas in US.

I was on a 63-day cross country road trip. In the deserts of nowhere in middle Texas, there was 0 cell reception, but plenty of radio stations. Same for Pacific Coast Highway of Cali between SF and LA.
