Windows Vista did pave the way and boldly changed many things which for the most part were forward steps but lets be honest, there were problems.

Windows 7 is finally RTM and ready for prime time and I say, "Bury Vista and embrace Windows 7 immediately!

Hardware and Software developers need a clear target and XP vs. Windows 7 is enough of a hurdle, put Vista to bed and lets get things moving forward!

For all you Vista users out there, Upgrade to Windows 7 (x64 preferred) and lets give all Hardware and Software developers a BIG FAT Target painted "Windows 7 x64".

The time is now, embrace the future and don't sit on the fence, the Computer and PC industry will only benefit from this transition and "We" as end users will reap the rewards. Don't let Vista hang around, let the real battle begin:

XP = R.I.P. (w/ respect for many years of fine service).
 
There are problems in 7 too.

Ones that are big enough i'm sticking with Vista till they get fixed.
 
Definably, Vista should be put to bed. It's kinda like ME. Why bother with it, choose between 98 or 2k. Same with xp/win7. Choose between those two. Using vista now is a waste of time. Vista is more or less the beta version of 7.

Totally, the only reason to use vista now is if you got stuck with it and dont want to pay for an upgrade to 7.

But seriously, I went to win7 too and I do like it 100% better.
Mainly because it has shown to be very stable on my system vs
vista, all netwotk devices connect immediately in Win7 bootup, where
in vista it took 3-4 minutes. I also now use the 64 bit os, vista I used the 32.
Upgrade? Depends. Some programs that ran in vista might not run in Win7.
Not to mention a 64 bit enviroment could be an issue with older 32 bit ran programs.
Believe it or not, one really old windows program I still use is the old windows cardfile
fom way back pre windows 98. I have all my addresses and notes in cardfile files.

Card file will not run in Win7, nor a 64 bit enviroment.
But I DID find a newer program that imports old cardile files. Problem solved.
Anoher program I just ran across that doesnt like Win7 is something called
TUBEHUNTER, that captures youtube flv video. I paid for tubehunter and now its useless.
But I figure tubehunter will get out a win7 happy update sooner or later.

Win7 SP1 is due sometime in 2010,I hear beta version is not that far off for downloading so its not a curious statement,end of the day no OS is perfect that includes Win7,btw be prepared to leave Win7 when Win8 arrives 😉 ,no OS is top dog forever.
 
I'm sure there will be a few issues for early adopters but overall Windows 7 has been getting excellent reviews and has been well tested leading up to the RTM build. I just switched 2 days ago and so far, everything is smooth.

XP is just too old now and 64-Bit needs a final push into the main stream. Vista just didn't make it and I think the PC industry would be well served if Vista wasn't in the way anymore. I know most Businesses never went to Vista and so XP is the standard but times are going to change very quickly now. I fully expect Windows 7 to succeed not only for home users but businesses too. The only thing that will slow the adoption down is this jacked up economy. I'm just happy Microsoft finally released a solid OS this time and that as PC users, we can finally move forward and have a solid platform to land on.
 
According to the steam hardware survey, both XP and Vista took 2% drops each during October. XP's 50% hold will disappear by the end of the month.

Microsoft would put out SP1 6-9 months after release no matter how many issues the system had, since there are a large number of people and corporations that do not upgrade until at least the first service pack. Microsoft understands this.

Of course, there will always be issues to address.

uhhhh, no.

Vista Ultimate ran perfectly on my desktop. After installing 7 Pro on my desktop if feels and runs exactly the same as Vista. As I have said in other threads, Im glad I got 7 for free, if I had paid for this I would not be happy. I am now running my copy of Vista Ultimate on my MBP under bootcamp, there is no reason to "put it to bed".

Sure.

No "Centered Timings" option in ATi's CCC.

Not certain if it's an issue with all Win7 versions of CCC, or an issue with 7.

Don't really care...it's a big enough problem i won't use the OS (on my gaming system) until it's working again.
 
Is the "folder memory" thing fixed in Windows 7?

Vista wouldn't "remember" the type of view (thumbnail, list, etc.) for specific folders and would just revert to default, causing infuriation. There's a fix for it on Vista, hope it's fixed on 7.

Nothing wrong with Vista right now, especially with SP2,its not beta and nothing like ME,Vista and Win7 was a big change from XP,Win7 is based on Vista anyway with improvements over 3 years or so.

DX11 on Vista has made it same as Win7 gaming wise,have look at Anandtech's Vista DX11 performance review.

I still use Vista as well as Win7 and stability on both is excellent.

Using Vista is not a waste,its very stable as DX11 and well supported now for general use,still has a lot of life left ,more then enough until Win8 comes along then both Vista and 7 will be old news.

Windows 7 is better and faster at booting, and also coming back to life from either sleep or hibernation. Obviously, some of this could be due to my clean install, whereas my Vista install was getting a little long in the tooth, but I think 7 really improved lots of things.
 
I'm enjoying my Win7 as well, however the other 2 machines in the house are staying XP till they die. To me Win7 is better than Vista only because now any piece of gear (aside from maybe netbook) will run it smoothly, not only that but Microsoft is offering so many inexpensive upgrade paths people like me have no excuse to be avoiding Win7
 
My desktop is running Vista Ultimate x64, and my new laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium x64. They're nearly identical.

Ultimately, I'd say the upgrade from Xp SP1 to Xp SP2 was bigger than Vista to Windows 7.
 
I just got Win7 Pro. I'll be loading it on my PC soon. Only reason I got it to replace Vista was because of the price (30 bucks!). If I had to pay full price... nope, I'd have stuck with Vista.

I'm going to use my Vista on another machine, at some point. Maybe when I upgrade my laptop to something that can run more than XP I'll put Vista on that.
