i ordered a epox 8rda+ from cnetpc.com for $113 shipped and cant wait to get rid of both my via kt266a, audigy and to a lesser degree of excitement my linksys nic (which has caused no problems).. never again will i buy a via chipset and creative would have to fix their entire driver reputation (aint happenin) for me to buy one of their cards again.

i was very close to building a p4 system but prefer the amd side but need stability (current system reboots every 12 hours) and I've fought with all my via chipsets.

anyone who has a 8rda+ already i'd like to hear any comments on the board, it should be here this week and im pretty excited

Yes I had it, but I was OCing it and pushing my proc (XP1700) and memory (DDR 2100) to 333 bus speeds, so it was running much faster than it should be, and I fried the board. I am waiting for a replacement from Mwave, but I could never get such high fsb speeds on my Abit KRZA. I wonder what happened to it. Anyway besides that it was great, good features excellent speed. I was just really pissed since I had to reformat my HD and I lost over 70GB of movies, and mp3s and so on, I was to lazy to put my old MB in the case and burn all that stuff, it was 2 in the morning and I had to work the next day and I wanted to run some bench marks. Anyway it was great, and I am eargerly awaiting my replacement MB.

Also I have a Sound Blaster Live GAMER live 5.1, and I noticed the sound to be crisper than the on board sound on the Epox. I tweaked the sound as much as I could but it just wasn't as clear and as strong as my SBlive. And you have an Audigy I would keep it, or if you don't want it I will buy it off you. :)

Wise man, I have been stating that the Epox board will RULE.
I am ordering the IGP NForce 2 not the SPP. I like Onboard Video, no troubles with compatability issues and I can still upgrade it. I'll pay a premium, 10 bucks extra for a $100 retail card, plus there is PLENTY of bandwidth leftover from Dual Channel PC3200.

When it comes to computers never say never, I have built just about all of them and I will stay with the VIA, It is nice that their is a wide choice out their, If a computers locks up their is something wrong with the computer not the chip set

Via chipset + Creative Sound Blaster = bad karma

don't trust this combination ever. i am running a KT266a mobo with a Philips sound card and i haven't had any lockups or pops or hisses at all.

c'mon people let's not turn this into a Via bashing thread, chipsets are only as good as the next one. Does anyone remember the of the nforce 420 miracle or the Ali Aladdin.

Double is right never say never coz who knows what KT400A will really bring or the SiS 746FX. Other chipsets will follow and one day we will mention nforce2 in the same sentence as 420 or Aladdin V and i815.

The only good thing in the chipset biz is competition.

I'm also considering the 8rda+, and since the SB live issue was brought up...I have a SB live Platinum that I have hooked up to a midi Roland keyboard (PC 200mkII). Any known issues here? I would like to use the onboard sound on the 8rda+, but I don't think there's a midi port built in to it. I don't mind keeping the SB live platinum, but I would like to know if anyone knows of any compatibility probs with the 8rda+. My wife composes music on our PC, and I game.
