Goodbye Abit ?

Greetings,

I read few weeks ago that Abit might abandon it's Modtherboard business, since then i have been checking every now and then their website which was fine.
However, since yesterday the site is unreachable, at list from the part of the region i leave. Are you a fan/owner of a Abit Equipment that experienced the same issue ? Is Abit gone for ever ?

It seems to be gone. I tried their page a week ago or so and it was defunctional. Their boards are almost out of stock also and there hasn't been a new board from them in a while.

Looks like they are indeed gone...

USI are now expected to shift the company?s focus away from enthusiast hardware and onto consumer electronics. Some of these devices, such as the FunFab digital photo frame and printer were on display at this year?s Computex.

Thats too bad, my first board was a Abit and they seemed to be making some nice boards post the USI buyout.

Pretty much, unless they give the latest BIOS or drive files to another site (like techpowerup) to host.

The Abit BE6 was the first board I worked with, which included replacing its bad capacitors that it developed after two years of use to keep the board in good working order. RIP Abit.

I'm still running a P4 2.8, OC'd @ 3.2 for the past 3 years on an Abit AI7. Only thing that's ever gone wrong with it is the infamous cheapo northbridge fan they stuck in there. Fantastic board though....

Only lately I've been thinking about upgrading to a new system, mainly because I use Photoshop in tandem with Lightroom. I might wait till sometime next summer though, due to this economy tanking and the I7 prices coming down at that point (I assume....).

That's too bad. I'm sad to see Abit go. They were always one of my favorite mobo companies. I had an Abit BX6r-2 that I really liked a lot.

Weak I current have an IP35-E and an IP35-Pro in two of my rigs and they're both some of the best boards I've ever had. R.I.P. Abit.

That's a shame and I hate to see them go. I've had several Abit boards and they were all solid performers and very well built.

I thought something was up months ago when Newegg's listing of Abit boards started to dry up.

Well I have a sort of a Junk box with 1 BH6, 2 BF6, 1 BE6. BX6r2, BX133 that I was ready to through way

All in good working shape, maybe I should keep them as a souvenir.

I am still running, BH7, BE7, K8N, and IP35. :thumbsup:

OMG if they all work and you're really going to throw them all away, ship them to me and I'll pay shipping (plus a couple bucks). I think I've owned all those except for the BE6, plus I don't know which revision my BX6 was.

I'm still running a BH6 with a Celeron 600 (or so) with XP. Great board. The Abit BX6 was an even better board. I ran through three generations of CPUs on the six BX6-es that I owned. Too bad all of my BX6-es failed eventually because of bad capacitors.....

Technology wise, I would keep using these Mobos as well. Being a Networking guy most of my peripheral computers are reserved for network related work and experimentation which does not need powerful CPUs, fancy Video, and Concert Hall Sound (unless One feels that the CPU reflects upon his/her Macho image),

The issue is that these Mobos are big and need full size boxes, in order to reduce space I switched to mATX boards, as small as possible Cases, and lower power consumption (Old Dell GX small form factor is my current favorite ).
