Just received from BB:

"Due to baseless and relentless legal badgering by a certain four letter government agency, it's time to bid a fond farewell to the world's most popular adult desktoys, Buckyballs and Buckycubes. That's right: we're sad to say that Balls & Cubes have a one-way ticket to the
Land-of-Awesome-Stuff-You-Should-Have-Bought-When-You-Had-the-Chance."

They should just move to Canada, at least they don't have to completely stop their business. I'm sure people would find a way to smuggle it through the border such as putting it inside a kinder surprise egg.... oh, wait.

Actually magnets would probably be hard to smuggle, I imagine the magnetic field can easily be detected.

I think I remember reading that about 250 kids a year swallow those things and for some reason they don't pass thru and have to be surgically removed.

I used to eat the mercury out of thermometers and it never affected me.

Hope you're joking about the mercury ... but if not that explains a lot.

We really need to stop banning products just because children are fucking morons.

Or we could just regulate children instead. Sounds like a much more economical and efficient solution than trying to regulate thousands of potentially hazardous products because people are too stupid to pay attention to what their kids are doing.

Having five children of my own, I'd like to think that I'm somewhat of an expert on this subject, and I would fully endorse this proposal.

I wonder if I can buy a couple dozen kits at super-discounted close-out prices?

(They're awesome fun in physics class.)

Otherwise, I'll have to buy them on ebay, same things, not sold as "buckyballs"

Where oh where will I ever go for small spherical or cubic neodymium magnets...:sneaky:

(Or is there more to those kits than that?)

Besides, kids would have more fun with one of these anyway.
As an added bonus, if you have a child who has swallowed some of the Buckyball magnets, simply place this magnet near his abdomen, and the swallowed magnets will be quickly extracted, likely following the shortest possible path.

And the smaller ones don't seem to be so prone to shattering - they're fun to toss at a steel wall or plate. *clink!*

They've been on heavily discounted (at one point 75% off) sale for a while now. You might be able to find knockoffs but the buckyball ship has sailed. Got my set of 3 when they were trying to get rid of em, and while fun I'm certainly not going to miss them.

Those look awesome. Imagine the electric motor or alternator you could build with several of those big magnets. D: In fact it would not surprise me if generating station alternators use many magnets around that size. Having played with hard drive magnets, I can only imagine the force that one has.

I'll have to keep that site in mind if I decide to build a wind turbine. Something like these could work well to build an alternator.

If that's what they're doing, they should ban electricity and fire too, because I've done pretty fucking stupid shit in my youth playing with both.

Should also ban doors. Children sometimes get their fingers stuck in them. Would be interesting to see a statistic on how often common accidents like that happen compared to bucky ball incidents. They just seem to pick and choose random stuff to ban for no apparent reason.

It's because there's a company to go after. If there's no popular company to sue then nobody cares because they can't make any money off of it.
