few people get to try different servers, so it'll be hard to get a balanced opinion. i would suggest a server in your time zone first of all. secondly, i think the pvp servers give a better experience overall. also, if i were starting over, i would join the newest realm, which i believe on the east is Gurubashi, so that the higher levels won't be bored and out ganking like most servers, and when you do get to 60, there won't be such a major gap between those who just hit 60 and those who have run end-game instances hundreds of times.

It's just my opinion, but I think i'm in the majority in advising the opposite. Unless you are the type who doesn't mind getting ganked every 2 minutes ... or unless you just like to be a ganker yourself, there really is no reason to play on a PvP server. Now that the honor system and Battlegrounds are live, you can have PvP when you want it with others who want it ... with good competition and without just getting ganked by somebody 20 levels higher than you every time you blink....

From what I've heard there have been a lot of people wishing they could move characters OFF of the PVP servers because they can do the PvP when they want to on the PvE servers without being ganked constantly...

Like I said though it's purely a matter of opinion, i haven't played on the PvP servers myself.

I have played both PvP and PvE(RP) and I must say that there are pluses and negatives for both.

The advantage of PvE is well covered above. It is easier to quest and solo since you are not under constant threat.

In PvP though, there is an element of being sneaky and meticulous, because you don't want to be caught off guard by opponents. However, it could be VERY frustrating to quest and do simple things like fish and gathering resources because you can be attacked any time.

I prefer PvE due BG.

From what I've heard PvP servers are much better since the advent of BG. Those seeking HKs and Honor points get them easier in BG than in the outside world, so questing is easier than it was.

I am on a 'normal' server because now that the real PvP content is being added 'normal' servers really aren't PvE, they are really 'choose your own adventure'. You can PvP in BG, you can quest alone in peace, or you can quest with the adventure and threat of flagging yourself for PvP.

I would advise in either case choosing a server based on having a guild in mind. Guild presence is important, and getting instances done with guildies is just more fun. You can build relationships and have experiences in game that you just don't have when you're grouped with total strangers that you couldn't care less about.

I would also advise choosing a faction which is less populated according to the census sites (usually Horde) and at least medium pop overall. If you choose a small server you can sometimes have a hard time finding a group for instances and Battlegrounds lines are long because there are simply not enough people. If you choose the less populated side, you are doing your part to even balance, plus if you are interested in BG, you generally have an easier time getting into the action... However if you go overboard to the highest population servers, these are the most prone to performance issues. Though, I've heard fewer grumblings about server performance lately.

I'd get on one of the newer servers, so you have a better chance of keeping up with the other players.

The newest pvp server is Gurubaishi, not sure about pve.
