Good work boots?

I just got a job where good boots are a must. I work with a lot of concrete and dirt, just fyi. I have never owned decent boots so I don't know much about good brands/etc.
After looking around, it seems like these are good boots.

Anyway..thoughts from those who know something about good boots?

best work boots i have ever bought were some branded as Caterpillar. they were about $70 but they were great.

redwing shoes are great, but usually pretty pricey -

i love my timberland pro's - held up well after 8 months, still comfortable all day, but if i had it to do again, i'd go for the titans and get the titanium toe protection rather than the steel for the weight savings

the b/f will never get steel toed though. says they are dangerous.

Is it because he thinks that the steel could cut off his toes or something? I heard some crap like that, and even Mythbusters checked it out. I think they debunked it.

Redwings or Matterhorn combat boots.

Off topic....why all the crete? Decorative or structural?

he had a 450 pound cylinder head fall on his toe. the boot had to be cut off his foot and the edge of the metal was embedded in his foot. he needed an operation and stitches and all sorts. he said he would have been better off with just a busted toe.

he says if you are kicking a brick wall or whatever, they are great, but he would rather wear plain old 8 or 10 inch tall, no steel toe, oil resistant bottomed boots.

a cheaper paid is called chippawah... but the quality for the money is really good.

Structural, but I am really involved in the testing of the concrete during pours for slabs/etc.

Wow, that sounds like it was bad.

Thanks for the suggestion also.

I hope he isn't expecting just a busted toe when the next 450 pound cylinder falls on his foot........

Wow. :Q

Go to Walmart... Their Brahma brand boots are cheap as hell (steel toe waterproof for like $30) and they last a while..

Plus, since they're only $30, you don't have to give a crap about them.. Just buy new ones when you want.

I had a pair of $130 Doc Martin boots I wore in Steamboat Springs, CO but they weren't warm enough.. so I bought some $30 Brahma boots from Walmart.. Since then, I have worn the Brahma boots a lot more often. Oh ya.. they're steel toe too.

I have worn wolverine durashocks the last 15+ years. They are the most comfortable but the quality has slipped the last 4-5 years. Will try something else next time.

I would stay away from cheap boots, they cause foot and back problems and will not last near as long as a good boot.

stay away from steel toe unless they are required. they are uncormfortable.

I have a pair of Wolverines - retail sticker said ~$150, but I picked them up on sale for about 90 bucks. Well worth it, but they're not steel toe.

I've been very happy with my Caterpillers. They're light weight like tennis shoes but very strong in the toe. My only complaint is that the tread pattern is a little slippery on wet concrete.

Actually it is not crap. AFAIK firefighters on smoke jumper and hot shot crews are NOT allowed to wear steel toe boots. In these cases it may have to do with the heat dissipation (or lack of) of the steel.
