Anyone have some ideas about a good wireless card for my PC that has Prism2 or 2.5 chipset?

I think you might get better response if you would ask the question in terms of functionality and hardware compatibly rather than chipset. Network's hardware issues are not judged the same way as Motherboard or Video cards.

Unless you're using something like Linux, in which case Prism cards are the best supported.

Right, this is going to be for Linux mainly, and then Windows XP.

I could search for a bunch of cards too, I was looking for reccomendations on GOOD ones.

n0cmonkey, as those listed ones that are good? I am not sure what makes a card good, I just need to use it, and want something that won't crap out on me, and give good results.

I have no experience with most of those cards. I've got a couple of PCI cards, a netgear MA311 I think and some Linksys card (that changed chipsets in the next rev or whatever). They work fine.

I've got a prism3 USB adapter, and it works fine.

This is all under OpenBSD though, not Linux.

Well I have very little hardware experience, I was just told prism2 or 2.5 chipset were the best ones for Linux. (This is going to be on a PC, not laptop)

What I need is something that will work on mainly Linux, but also on Windows XP. I don't want to screw around with a bunch of settings and hope the card will run.

Pending on how your system is situated and what the wireless is connected to. You need to make a determination of what class of Wireless you are going to use, and whether it is better to use PCI, or USB, or PCI with external Antenna etc.
Once you make these determinations you can choose a card from n0cmonkey's list.

Judging from the way you approach it you might want first to educate yourself about Wireless.

That's a good link, but I thought there was a 802.11g/b or b/g version too?

My sole purpose for this is to be have a backup internet access, in case my router or cable goes out. My neighbors were kind enough to leave open 5 wireless networks with high speed internet.

The PC doesn't move from its position, so a PCI card is fine, whichever is less expensive :)

My system is located in my sig, if that helps when helping me pick out a good card to use.
