Good Wireless G Router

sep

I currently have a Netgear wireless G router. It works great when I can connect. Usually once a day I have to reset the router. It really gets to be a problem now with my notebook that I take with me all around the house.

Anyone recommend a fair priced G router that stays connected????

Oh forgot to mention it will be an access point only...I have a good router that is non-wireless and I've moved the wireless router to give best reception.

I'm biased towards the Buffalo WHR-54GS with DD-WRT or the Linksys WRT-54GL running DD-WRT. Just increase the maximum number of IP connections to 4096 (from the default of 512), and these routers are fast and stable.

I have two of the Zyxel 330's, one set as a router and the other as a wireless access point. Both have been rock solid for the several month's I've had them.

BTW, all the Buffalo products have been pulled due to a lawsuit, no telling when we'll see their stuff for sale again.

Hmm.. the 550 has 181 reviews 67% with a rating of 5.

I am familiar with the 550, it is an excellent Device.

I did not use the 330 personally, but by feedback from people that I respect, and the fact that it is a technically similar device with less features, inexpensive, and can do WDS as is, I feel that I can recommend it.

Another thing to look at is the Asus52oGU.

I have No experience with it, so the following is just information, not a recomendation.

The device recently came down in price (it cost now about $50), it DD-WRT flashable.

Few members claim that it similar to the Buffalo WHR125 and that it works well.

The ZyXEL X-550 is based on a Ubicom chipset, similar to the one used by the very popular D-Link DGL-4300. The ZyXEL probably has a better wireless than the DGL-4300, but lacks the built-in gigabit switch, and is generally priced much better. With the chipset comes much of the firmware core and the feature set.

D-Link has several other units based on a Ubicom chipset, and so do many other vendors lately, especially higher-end "gaming" routers. The cheapest among these from D-Link is the DIR-625.

The ZyXEL P-330W is an interesting affordable device, but is probably based on a very different chipset, so can't be simply compared to the others. Perhaps it has a similar wireless radio though -- I don't know offhand.

The 330 is an older unit based on other older chipsets. As I mentioned above, and few time before, it is in expensive $34 +Free ship from NewEgg.

It is reported to work well, and thus a good solution for some one who need inexpensive Wireless that works.

I just noticed that the OP doesn't really want a wireless router -- he just wants an access point. This makes a lot of the discussion on what's the best router chipset/etc., moot -- the wireless matters the most here, not the routing.

I'd probably put the Asus above the 330 here, just as the pricing does, because DD-WRT has a nice wireless feature set if you need it.
