Good website for console game reviews

As the topic mentions, I am looking for a good website with games reviews to accompany my new Wii.

Any game recommendations with an explanation why would be appreciates also.

Thank You

PS. this is my first ever console so be gentle 😛

I've always like ign.com. Just add your system name in front as the subdomain, IE: ps3.ign.com, xbox360.ign.com, ds.ign.com or in your case, wii.ign.com

I may take some flack for this, but I actually prefer GameSpy. They miss games sometimes, but the reviews of the ones they do hit tend to be spot on.

i dont recommend IGN as they are biased to the blockbuster games. I personally prefer 1up/EGM because they always rip games apart and tend to talk a lot more bluntly about games than other reviewers.

Problem with 1up is that their review staff seems to really hate Wii motion controls. It seems every Wii game that makes good use of the controls they complain that using a GameCube or Classic controller is better.

Myself, I go to MetaCritic. Basically the same as GameRankings, but with a nicer interface that gives a quick summary of each review instead of just a number.

well i agree with them about the wii controls for the most part 🙂

I like Metacritic as well. You get a nice summary and if you're really interested in the individual reviews they're all right there.

Some Wii games actually have good controls. A lot of them have tacked on waggle controls (Okami, Zelda, etc.), but there are still a few that are pretty good. 1up seems to always dislike them, though.

http://www.gamerankings.com/ is a good place to start, and then you can go to the individual reviews from there. There's a couple of other sites that do the same thing, but might be a little better or worse.

Strange, I'm confused as to how the PS3 version of GTA4 has a 99.8% but the 360 version of GTA4 only has 98.8%? I expected the game to just get lumped into one category, GTA4

No, the separate multiplatform games by platform, just as game review sites generally review a specific version of the game (or at least dedicate some portion of the review to explaining the differences between the versions).

I think it's mostly because some games vary a lot from platform to platform. Look at the PS2 and Wii versions of Rock Band versus the 360 and PS3 versions. They're practically different games. Same with a lot of others. There are even a lot of PS3 versions that are cut down compared to the 360 version of the same game.

The PS3 version is probably winning due to the slightly better graphics. The 360 apparently has more pop in and the colors don't look quite as good.
