there was one that i saw linked from this forum i think, that was about someone who went on a long trip through africa and documented it. they did like a big loop in some jeep. i believe it was on these forums within the past few weeks. it was pretty damn cool and i clicked around the forum and it had a forum dedicated to people documenting their own expiditions, pretty neat stuff.

i personally use tripadvisor though when i'm researching a vacation and have always had good experiences with it, simply because it's every day people like us that are on there giving advice and opinions.

x2 tripadvisor.com is what I have always used and I have been to several continents.

if going to a foriegn country it's best to get a paper travel book. They are cheap used and are very helpful.

oh yea, almost forgot:

flyertalk forums is the best place to learn how to get a deal on airfare.

I use tripadvisor when I travel. But I suspect everybody's already seen and familiar with it. Otherwise, review sites like Yelp can be handy as well if you are travelling and want to look for a restaurant or whatever for dinner.

Yeah Tripadvisor is good and you can download city-specific apps which can be extremely useful when you are away. I used the Budapest one quite a bit while we were over there.

Trip Advisor is not bad, just need to be a skeptic on some of the posts.

Whenever I want to travel to certain country or region, I use Google to look up as much as I can about that country/region and learn from the natives.

I have found lonelyplanet and tripadvisor (don't forget their forums) to be pretty good and occasionally fodors. I've used some more specifically targeted sights like flyertalk and cruisecritic as well. Those tend to be amazingly well detailed for their specific niches.
