Good way to kill a rat?

There's this rat flailing about in the street in front of my house as if it's been poisoned. I figure I should jsut kill it and put it out of it's misery, but I don't have a shovel and I don't want rat blood and crap on my shoe. Any good ideas? I guess I could jsut wait for a car to hit it.

Hmm..could you not just take a bb/pellet gun and either pump it up a bunch (if it isnt Co2) then hold him still and shoot him point blank in the head?

gun
gallon of bleach
watermelon
computer monitor (CRT preferred)
go Amazon and use a stick
last ditch effort: lite a fart and flamethrower the dirty bastage

Hmm, looks like he died on his own. I went back outside and was looking at it, it was panting really heavily and laying on it's side, then it kinda stretched like it was trying to get up, squeaked once, and stopped breathing.

Maybe I should get it off the road but I don't really want to touch it.

eh, when i used to use live sticky traps(bad idea).. had to club their head with a hammer. u can't rip em out...the glue is too strong. those live traps are jokes better to use snap traps. course best is a 22 or something.. blow the critters head off so fast there is no chance he'd suffer. hammer u gotta have steady hand..small target.
