I personally like Swiss Army and Seiko. Casio if you are on a budget.

I am not aware of any quality watchmakers who use aluminum, which is too prone to cracking and scratching to be a good material for a watch.

I am actually just the opposite, in that I am annoyed by watches that don't have good heft. I find titanium watches maddeningly insubstantial on the wrist (though titanium is nice for bikes!).
