The new LG's are really nice. I cant speak for their history though, they only starting selling in the US within the past 10 years or so.

We've got the LG Tromm series and I havent had a problem.

I've used maytags in a couple of places in the last 3+ years and they worked great. I have heard good things about LG too, but have never used one.

I have a Kenmore (Whirlpool) and it's been pretty good so far. My folks always used Kenmore with pretty good results.

I'd avoid GE all together. I've had appliance parts salespeople tell me on more than one occasion that they're junk.

Our Maytag Neptune bit it after three years because of a design flaw. There was a class action suit. We got like $13.10. Hooray.

Then, while shopping for a replacement, we found the Fischer & Paykel brand they carry at Lowes. The washing machine has no belts and the bin rides on magnets. It's pretty much the absolute most energy efficient washing machine available. Because it's on magnets it can spin for longer than other machines and get clothes wrung out better to cut down on drying time. Takes me about 1 second to hit the settings and start it.

It's good stuff. Going on four years without the slightest hiccup. Was moderately priced back then, not sure now that they're starting to get more of a name.

Whirlpool 6600S Bought last years Model and matching dryer (about 11 months ago)...OMG, best washer/dryer set I've had. You can seriously wash 12-15 pairs of jeans at a time, and then dry them in under an hour.

There are lower models with roughly the same technology...we bought the high end one on clearance and because the kids (at least initially) were intrigued by spinning clothes visible through the clear doors

They guy at Lowes (where I bought my Whirlpool) said the F&P uses the same motor system as the Whirlpool top loaders. Either way, good stuff
