good voltage for 1.4 thunderbird?

JBT

Lifer
I have mine set at 1.725 that not bad is it? could I bump it up a little highier to over clock it highier? FSB is a 145 right now what do u think is a good place for me to settle her down at. BTW multiplier is at 10.5. Any recomendations on the best setting for this ?
1.4 gig Athlon
PC 2700 256 MB RAM
MSI KT3 UlTRA 2
Glaciator heat sink
425 WAtt PSU
what setts would be optimal?

Funny that you should bring this up man, sinch I also have a 1.4G TBird and a KT Ultra 3... I am running at 1.6 (133x12) at default voltage right now.. A good clock since you have PC2700 would be to try to go for 166mhz FSB.. if your chip is factory unlocked like mine try to go for 10 or 10.5 x 166... I wasnt willing to put up with the additional noise created to clock my chip to 1630.. it needs 1.85v to do 1630.. I figure it isnt worth it to have to crank up the volatge to 1.85 just to get another 30mhz.. But good luck.. 🙂 Just max out your voltage at 1.85 and set it for 166mhz FSB and pray.. if it boots and is stable after a long time, try turning down the voltage until you get instability then go back up a nothc, and there u go.

depending on the temps it doesnt matter where you settle down
1.85v was normal for them (overclocked ones)
1.75v is default

most had 1.9v+ with good cooling

i personally have a 1ghz rite now at 1.45v just becuase i want to see how low it will go (plus its not a very good overclocker)

this didn't seem to work When I look at my Motherboard the Dbracket (tells me of hardware problems) It gives me the message that the Hard Drive controller is initializing I'm assuming when it says that the IDE controller fails to start can anyone tell me why that is happening I put the Vcore up to 1.825 and the FSB up to 160 to start and it just wouln't boot until I cleared C MOS and unplug and repluged the power cord in. Thanks for any help!!!
Put normal settings back to auto Vcore and FSB back to 138 so its at a 1453.29 overclock
If the Drives might be causeing the problem I have a D470 Maxtor and a older 20 gig westerndigital that is a 5400 RPM.
and a Atapi 12 X DVD ROM and a 12X10X40X CD/RW not sure if all this matters.

Jeez, 145 to 160 is a huge jump! You can't go from 1522MHz to 1680MHz in one go and expect it to work! Not on a Thunderbird, anyway, very few of them would hit much more than 1600MHz.

Right, your default voltage should be 1.75V not 1.725V. Push your FSB as far as you can at stock voltage - I guess 145MHz might be it - then bump the voltage a little, like to 1.85V, then push the FSB a bit further, then the voltage again to 1.90V, then FSB again and so on until it's flaky or locks hard, then back off a bit and see if it's stable. If you're lucky you'll get to 152-153MHz FSB (about 1.6GHz) without going past 1.90V.

Also at 160MHz your PCI is at 40MHz and not many hard drives will tolerate that (remember that with IDE, the controller is really on the drive); if your board has a 1/5 ratio for the PCI clock use it while you're ramping up the FSB.

Where might this 1/5 ratio for the PCI clock be found? Somewhere in the bios I assume not sure where though THANKs!!!

Just hit 1656 with mine.. still burning in and getting more.. and Ive had this chip for almost a year! Good luck man 🙂

Got her working at 162X9.5 = 1539 VCore=1.85 Vdimm at 2.7 seems to be running fine gonna run prime95 for the night to see how she holds up thanks for the help guys. Tried 166 but she froze once into windows.

After Awhile of running that ffast I noticed that the HSF seemed to always be changing speeds and sounded weird. So I decided t ogo back to stock speeds. I then wanted to try 166FSB and 8.5 as the multiplyer just to take advantage of my PC2700 ram. But for somereason the thing doesn't seem to boot up at all again. Seems to but a problem initializing the IDE controller agian. Not sure why any recommendations
