My poor Sony VCR is dying.....it has served me well for the last 8 years but it's time to put it out to pasture. Any suggestions on a new VCR? I would like to get one that has both S-Video in & S-Video out. Been a while since I've done any VCR shopping and in fact I never thought I would need to buy another one. I probably wouldn't even replace it if it weren't for the fact that my GF drives me nuts recording various shows for her throughout the week. Suggestions please.....

If you want SVideo in/out you will need to get a SVHS VCR. That being said I would look at models available from JVC. The are able to record at SVHS resolution on regular tapes which is nice, although the tapes may not play back in other VCRs.

Link to VCRs at Crutchfield

Edit: I have a cheap JVC stereo VCR here at home and the build quality is so much better than other VCRs I have seen. The unit itself is much more solid than other brands. Also, JVC was one of the inventors of VHS.

For the most bang for the buck in an SVHS, buy the $169.99 JVC HR-S4800 at Crutchfield. It gives you all the features of the newer S3900 plus the flying erase head and S-VHS input on the front panel. There are more differences, but you'll have to sort through them here:I've been VERY happy with the features and performance.
