thinking about trading in my saturn sedan and getting a van (more room to lug computer and a/v projects around in). anyone own a good one? I'm thinking used in the sub-10k range.

gasp....puts on flame suit...GM (venture, montana, silhouette) vans are cheap, fuel efficent, and roomy, and adequately powerful. You should be able to find a 2000 - 2002 for around that price. Try to find out if it's had the lower intake manifold gasket updated, otherwise plan on spending $600-800 to get that done. Otherwise they are pretty trouble free.

nah, no flame suit needed, I don't have a car preference. I know GMs are supposed to stink, but I have a saturn which is a GM spinoff and I love it. thanks for the info!

I've owned 3 of them (two silhouettes and on Montana) and they've been great to me. I just purchased the 03 montana last week, so all the research is pretty fresh in my head. Thousands (like, almost $10000) less than an odyssey or sienna, with much better reliability thatn ford windstar or dodge caravans.

if you need any help identifying if the gasket work has been done, I can send you some pictures

I want an orange van, to match my bike...what does he have? 😀
You're in luck. But, uh, the left-rear tire is flat (some sort of plastic bits stuck in it and it leaks) and there's a piss-stain in the driver's seat. Seems my uncle got real scared one time when someone threw something at his windshield.

How much junk you want to haul?

Dodge made an extended full size van that is common around here.😉

I own a G20 Chevy myself.🙂

10 foot from the bottom of the front seat "perches"
to the inside of the rear doors.
I can haul 4x8 sheets of plywood/sheetrock,etc,if I clean my other junk out.

I bet I could throw an orange over there them mountains...

Depending on how much you need to carry you might want to look at wagons also. Drive better but carry a bit less.

I'm thinking more along the minivan side of things. I hate driving big cars, like 15-passenger vans. I just need to tote speakers and computers and large pieces of wood (4' x 8' sheets). Minivans seem perfect. Trucks aren't in the picture right now.

Emrys, I was considering wagons, but the only wagon my girl will let me get is a subaru and the one we want is out of our price range right now.

Oh and what is insurance like on minivans? I'm 21 and have a clean driving record.
