Good utility to edit ID3 tags of MP3s?

I have a number of sound utilities and programs and maybe they can do this but I'm unaware of the facilities to do so. I have a lot of MP3's, and used to use an MP3 player that just displayed the file name in the LCD window. I'm using Rockbox right now and haven't been able to locate a setting for showing the file name. It just says stuff like Unknown Artist. Some of my MP3's ripped with EAC have tags but I want to change them. If doable in EAC, I haven't found it. Suggestions? Thanks.

For a mass mp3 tag renamer I would recomend Tag&Rename.

I just spent almost an hour using MP3Tag, and I have to say it looks great, has umpteen bells and whistles (and I couldn't figure out what any of them do) but I couldn't figure out easy ways to do a lot of cool natural common sense things like defaulting the artist name and album title for every track in a directory. I had to retype it every time or do a series of copy/paste actions. Plus, I had to save the info for each song or it would be lost and then I had to click OK every time. Also, there has to be some way for getting the file name inserted as the track title, but I couldn't find that either. :roll: Anyway, I put tags in most of my MP3's, regardless.

MP3tag can do all of that easily.

Load up the folder in mp3tag and ctrl+a to select them all. Then on the left side pane edit the field you want to change and hit ctrl+s to apply it to all selected files.

To make the filename the same as the ID3 Title tag:
Convert menu > Tag - Filename > Format string: %title%
Hit the help button in that dialog to see all the other variables such as %artist% and %track%.

I use itunes, gets the job done, but I have it installed anyways for my MP3 player requires it to load songs.

Thank you! That really is tremendously helpful. I wondered why everything went nuts (from my perspective) when I did a Control+A. I expected the field to be highlighted but things seemed to go nuts.

I'll be referencing this thread later today. But i have to say, why is there not an Excel style editor to edit id3 tags. I have similar wants. I want to name the artist and album name easily. I also want to edit the file names easy (just by typing into cells in Excel).
