Now that every warranty has basically expired on all of the parts in the computer I put together, it seems like a good idea to invest in a UPS. Can anyone recommend a good one? I currently have a 300w PS, with a 1.4GHz cpu. I was looking around at newegg, but I don't know much about this stuff. Any ideas? I heard that the better ones run over $100.

Yes, the better ones run over 100 ... I'm in the same boat as you and need a UPS for my server (frequent black outs lately) .. anyways, I hear that APC makes the best UPS units .. check them out.

IMO APC is the best when it comes to power protection. I have lost a little confidence in them because some of their newer products (the cheaper ones) just don't seem as good. I recommend you get a Back-UPS Pro 650.

The UPS in that hot deals post has a VERY VERY fishy look. It's been posted here before and I clearly remember something important (AVR maybe?) was missing. It just doesn't make sense for them to sell a 1000VA UPS cheaper than a similar 420VA UPS. Ignore me if you wish, but don't come back crying when it doesn't work like a true Back-UPS Pro. ;)

BTW, I would not buy ANY APC UPS that cost less than $100! Those are usually the Back-UPS office series which are junk IMO. I've used some of the Back-UPS Office series and they seem to be little more than a surge protector with a battery. I just don't trust them!
