my ups just died on me. i went away for about 3 weeks and i disconnected it from the outlet and now it just wont turn on so i guess i need a new one.
im currently using my brothers for just the computer cuz when i connect the monitor to it also, after about 2 minutes, it says overload protection. so only my comp is on the back up as of now.

what i need help with is deciding how much power i need from the battery back up. i have a 460 power supply for my comp and i have a 19 or 20 inch monitor (i forget which one) and its the big clunky ones, now the thin ones. i dont know how many VA and volts i need to run this thing. 10 minutes of running time would be good for me. just so i have enough time to finish what im doing and shut down the computer. but 20-30 minutes would be better.

You can try APC selector page. They'll even show you the right products for your needs ... then you'll have a clue of what you'll need, based on the specifications of the products they recommend.

the suggested some pretty expensive stuff. like $200. i was aiming more towards $100. i found this brand new apc ups in my house. its 500VA and 325 watts. i connected my monitor and comp to it now and it seems to be good. its not giving me any overload protection warnings. my old ups had like 750va and 450 watts. this new ups has been sitting in the house for 5 years. the battery and the unit itself is still good to use right?
