Good upgrade from CrossFired (2x) Radeon HD 4890 1GB setup?

I have two Radeon HD 4890 1GB in a CrossFire setup and would like to replace them to:

1) increase performance
2) reduce power consumption (if possible)
3) have DX11 support

I'm hoping to spend no more than $350 US. Going CrossFire again would be fine but I'd rather go with a single card this time around to reduce power consumption.

I'm eyeing this HIS 6950 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161359 but would I see a performance boost over my current 4890 1GB CrossFire setup?

Should I bite the bullet and go 6970 instead? Or should I just CrossFire two cheaper 5 series? ( such as this MSI 5770 1GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127490 )

Ideally I'd like a setup that is future-proof enough for Battlefield 3...

Thanks!

all those options would be slower except the 6970 and that is over your budget.

You can get 2 6850s for about $300.

"future-proof enough for Battlefield 3"? at what res are you playing games? and why dont you wait and see what the game requires because I am pretty sure crossfire 4890 will handle that. have you not looked at any reviews because 5770 crossfire would be slower than one you have now. DX11 alone is certainly no reason to upgrade IMO. also you better have one heck of a cpu if you want to get any significant gpu upgrade over current setup.

ok thanks for the responses guys

i play @ 1680x1050 res

CPU is quad core AMD Phenom II 965 3.4GHz

regarding 6850 CrossFire setup, would i or wouldn't i experience much of an improvement?

We don't even know when BF3 is even coming out. You build for a game when you know what it needs, we know nothing about Battlefield 3. Also by the time BF3 games out, newer cards will already be out by then. Unless you just have the upgrade bug then go for it but no reason to try and build for a game that we know nothing about.

Yes, a performance increase indeed. How big it will be is unclear though based on your X4 cpu.

But to me, 2x4890 is basically a 5870. Since 2x5770 is a 5870. A single 6850 OC'd can be equal to a 5870. So 6850 Crossfire should be almost double that of 5770 / 4890 Crossfire I would think.

Overclock your cpu some too.

Yes, indeed.

So instead of building a rig for BF3. Just build one that you think will run Crysis 2. 🙂.....and you should be good for any upcoming game. lol. If you can run Crysis 2, anything else shouldn't be a problem.
