I currently run an AMD Athlon II X4 640 3GHz processor at stock speeds. I'm looking at the AMD X6 1090T processor at Microcenter for $159 with a free Gigabyte 760G AM3+ motherboard.

I can sell the motherboard for $50 making the cpu only $109. I can probably sell my 640 cpu for $70 making the X6 only a $40 upgrade.

Would i see a noticable upgrade from my old X4 cpu?

Seems like it would be worth it to me for the $40. My motherboard is a Gigabyte 770 UD3 board with 16GB of DDR3 1600 and is AM3 socket.

It's definitely worth it. You'll probably get a bunch of people telling you to get SNB, but for that price, it's a steal. Nab some good cooling for it, too. Overclock and watch some seriously awesome performance gains.

Heck yes! Do it while you still can :)

Sell that mobo and processor as a bundle on the FS/FT forums and hopefully you wont' be out much, if anything, on the upgrade!

Only reason I own a 1090T is because of that, bought it with the free motherboard to replace my Athlon II X4 630, than sold the board and Athlon II to a friend so the 1090T cost less than $100. For that price it's a good deal and worth it, I would jump on that soon too, AMD quit shipping Phenom II processors.

that's a pretty solid upgrade, especially if you do any gaming. The L3 cache on PhII makes a big difference! Go for it!

Thanks guys, i'm getting it. I didn't know that AMD stopped shipping them. I have to imagine that they'll hold their value very well just like the Intel Q9550 and Q9650 still do because of the upgrade path for those on AM2+ and AM3 socket boards.
