Can you make a recommendation for me?

Would this one work?

IMO, you would probably be disappointed going from the 2005FPW to the 248WFP. The 24" Dell uses an inferior TN panel and the viewing angles will be awful compared to your 2005FPW. I have recently burned through quite a few 1920x1200 LCDs, and I've actually gone back to using my 2005FPW because I can't find a replacement I feel is suitable. I talk about my experiences here:

If aren't interested in reading the whole thread, here's my advice: if you do decide to try out the Dell 248WFP make sure you keep your 2005FPWs around so you can fall back on them should you not be happy with the 248WFP.

Your best bet is to look at the new 22" E-IPS dell Panel or an Apple CinemaDisplay if you want to keep the same quality, since I believe that you may have gotten the IPS panel with the old 2005

That old Dell of your used an S-IPS panel, and you will surely going to disappoint in both color and view angles if you buy something with an el cheapo TN panel. Sorry to say this but $240 per isn't going to cut it! You need to spend a little more money!

And going to something like a 22" with resolution a LOWER resolution than you Dell's might make you cringe too. You Dell has resolution of 1600 x 1200 right? So if you want higher resolution, a 22" isn't going to cut it.

If it were me, the only format that makes sense is to get dual 24" IPS or PVA based panel, but preferably IPS based, like the HP LP2475w! Price will be an issue though. I have these following Dell monitors right now, the Dell 20" 2008WFP (S-IPS panel), 24" 2408WFP (PVA panel), and 22" 2208WFP (TN panel). I can say right now that the TN panel is junk when it comes to color and view angle, when compared to the other two. TN is so bad that I don't even used it anymore (gave it to my sister). Between the 20" IPS and 24" PVA, the IPS has better and more natural looking color, and the IPS panel also can tolerate a bigger shift in view angle before the color will act like a chameleon changing its shade. However, I use the 24" more because I need the size, but I love the IPS panel more for its color.

If I'm upgrading monitor, I think only a 24" IPS based panel will suffice, because once you get used to seeing good color reproduction, moving to something lower will definitely be an eyesore 24/7, which is miserable.

the resolution on a 2005fpw is 1680x1050. I've been looking into replacing mine but it's such a damn nice screen. 4 years on and no dead pixels either....(far as I can tell, haven't done the test in a while)

ah this must be a widescreen monitor. Well!! this makes it easier to decide (again, if it were me!). I would ditch the dual widescreen setup and get one 24" at 1920x1200. Dual widescreen is nice with lots of width, but vertical is only 1050? that is sooo limiting, you have to scroll up and down too much.

BTW, i'm not sure if the widescreen version of the Dell 20" 2005wfp is an IPS based monitor, but I believe back in 2005 Dell still uses IPS panels for both its widescreen and 4:3 versions. Not sure, just guessing a bit.

Side note: I don't understand why people would chose a 20" widescreen with 1680x1050 and not 20" regular screen with 1600x1200. You lose overall desktop resolution with widescreen.

Anyway... if the OP is thinking of ditching his dual monitor and go with a single 24", then Dell is having a sale on its 24" PVA based professional monitor for about $430 shipped (plus possible tax), or if he can afford to spend more money, get the HP LP2475w (IPS based).

Depending on if the op predominately uses his PC for gaming or photo/video editing which requires accuracy or just general office work, it'll be easier to make a suggestion...

I remember when the 2005fpw caught AT's attention years ago... people were arguing this exact same thing. I still love my 2005fpw.

I primarily do office work and Photoshop, and occasionally game at night.

Honestly I'm satisfied with them. I think my main concern is a bigger monitor for gaming. I'm addicted to dual screens now, so I don't think one 24" would suffice.

But yes, I wish I could have two 4:3 monitors... I'm not impressed with widescreen for office work.
