Good time for a new PC?

My current computer is pretty old and not worth upgrading. I've been thinking of getting a new one mostly because I have some spare parts for a system I had hoped to build a couple years ago. Right now, I'm sitting on an Antec sonata, a DVDrw, and 2 80gb sata drives. I need help putting the rest together.

As of now, the only game I play is WoW. The gaming phase of my life is slowly fading, but I'm not going to rule it out completely. As of right now, I'm aiming towards a budget machine. Any suggestions if I am going towards the AMD route? It is looking pointless for me to buy a socket 754/939 chip. But then again, someone mentioned memory incompatibilities for the new AM2 chipsets

So is it a good time for a new PC?

are you serious? now is a great time for a new PC. If you're on a budget, AM2 may be a better choice than Conroe, since there's a better selection of quality parts and especially since AM2 boards will support AM3 chips. you could build yourself a pretty serious system for a wallet-friendly price.

I have no clue what your budget is, but Intel's Core 2 Duo seems to offer a lot of power for little money.

Mobo + cpu = $339.99 Text
Video card = $228.99 Text
Ram = $161.99 Text
Power supply (if needed) = $51.50 Text

Use your old case and drives, total comes to roughly $783 before tax/shipping and after applicable rebates.

If you don't think you need that much graphics power, get a 7600GT Text and it lowers you to roughly $711 before tax/shipping. And if you want to lower the amount of RAM, it'll save you another $50 (but I think the extra $50 is worth a whole GB) Text

Now, if you want to go with AMD AM2, just replace the CPU + mobo from above with these two:

Cheap mobo $83
CPU $160

It will be a bit slower than the Intel build, but it will still be a nice upgrade and will save you roughly $100.

And one more thing.. if you want to make your Sonata even quieter, get this. I used it on mine, and it is just the exact amount needed to fully cover the inside of the case. I could really tell a difference after applying it.
