Good T-Bird heatsink/fan

Im about to get a new T-Bird 900Mhz and Im looking for a good fan. Im thinking about getting the super orb( http://www.plycon.com/scorb.htm ). Is this a good fan? Will I need to get a copper shim for the socket A chip? By the way, Im not planning on overclocking - I just want to keep everything cool.
thanks,

You don't need the copper shim. In fact, it may hurt cooling. The four pads on the surface of the processor already do the trick.

If you don't want to overclock, any decent Socket-A heatsink should do the trick (Chrome Orb comes to mind). You can get the Thermaltake Chrome Orb, Taisol CEK732, GlobalWin FOP32-1, etc.

It said on the site that it actually has zinc oxide instead of a thermal pad. Does this make a difference? I still need goop, right?
thanks,

Thermaltake just hasn't got a good Socket A cooler IMHO. All show and no blow !!. Taisol is my preference, reasonable cost and good performance. If you want to use different compound, first make sure that you clean off everything applied by the manufacturer. Then consider lapping the base, many are not smooth and flat. PCTC that most hsf's use doesn't need a real smoth surface.

if you're not overclocking, go ahead and get the retail package cpu.

It comes with the Taisol CEk733092(which is very good, and uses a PCTC Pad(daddyG can explain more 😉). If you choose to use grease, beware silicon bsaed greases and their tendancy to dry out on duron applications.
