Good sushi restaurants in Washington D.C.?

I'm looking to take a date out to a good sushi restaurant in D.C., nothing too too fancy or pricy but somewhere nice. Any suggestions?

Does it have to be in the city? There are some decent places in the suburbs. Bethesda has Tako and Matuba.

There's a really good one in Alexandria but I can't remember the name of it. It's right off Van Dorn if I recall correctly. Next to Giant near Walmart.

Bethesda Metro is @15 minutes walking from either of the ones I mentioned. There's also a Matuba in Arlington, but I haven't eaten there, and I don't know jack about the Metro out there.

best place is just outside of DC in Arlington VA, it is called Cafe Asia and everynight they have Sushi happy hour where they have good discounts...everything is fresh, tons of yuppies go there(can be good or bad, but the food is good) and it is a great place....you can eat outside also..it is on Wilson BLVD right over the GW bridge, I used to live a few blocks down from there and would go almost every other night with my fiancee...she hates sushi but she loved that place..they also have great tempura and a whole host of other items on their menu.

by metro I believe you can take the orange line to the rossalyn stop which should let you out very close, short walk up hill...

again I cannot stress enough how good this place is...

also for non sushi there are alot of nice places to eat in Old town alexandrea, Georgetown (Clydes and j pauls) also in shirlington there is the Carlyle Grand Cafe, really one of the best higher end places I have eaten at ever...

good luck, DC is an awesome place.

Man, I was going to reply with some help, but I can't remember the name or location of the place we went to when I visited my friend while she was interning. Sorries. 😛

Cafe Asia is ALRIGHT, but not great.... the atmosphere is really nice though

Bethesda is the place you wanna go for sushi, but I don't have any specific recommendations.

Goto Japan Inn.
It's a few blocks north of georgetown on Wisconsin Avenue. Bear in mind that it is an uphill walk so a cab might be in order.
They are one of the most authentic places I have been to in DC although they charge a fair amount too.
They have the best Shabu Shabu there which I wholeheartedly recommend.

Cafe Asia is okay at best.
Seems like one of those trendy yuppie joints that have the generic asian type foods for exorbitant prices, but nice deco and ambiance.
The closest comparison I can think of is a place like PF chang's. I can almost imagine the look on my mom's face if I ever brought her to one of these

Anyways, tako grill is pretty good for sushi too. It's a step above cafe asia, but not the best. However, like someone else said, it is metro accessible.
You know, now that I think about it, there really arent that many decent sushi places that are metro accessible.
Then again, I guess it also depends on how much you are into sushi. If youve eaten way too much of it over the years then Japan Inn might be the only satisfactory place. But if this is your first, then you cant really go too wrong with any place that you choose.

Good luck

Tako Grill isn't bad at all and the prices are decent. I know a guy who works there so whenever I go I get free drinks 😀

I don't know, to put Cafe Asia in the same boat as PF's seems a little rough to me, one is like the Chilli's of Chinese food (PF's) the other is a trendy japanese place with decent sushi and a great atmosphere...I have been by the Japan Inn before but never felt compelled to go in, guess I should try it out next time I am down there....

Everything mentioned in Bethesda would only be accessable via bus which IMHO sucks, and I am not sure even the Bus would be an option.

IMHO Matuba was ok but not anything I was overly impressed with...

that link to the washingtonian is a good one, they are generally pretty accurate with their reviews.
