I'd be lost without it.

Been using PowerDesk since Version 1. Still have the floppy and manual.

Anytime I'm looking for something, I use Internet Explorer or My Computer. I don't think I've ever used the Windows Explorer with the 2 panel display.

What version of Powerdesk are you running now?

I didn't get started with PD Pro until v5 and have seen that v6 is now available. It's hard to tell, but it doesn't appear there is much difference between v5 and v6.

?Poor? PowerDesk changed ownership of 4 companies since its inception.

Version6 is the first release of the new owner. They dropped few things from the previous release and did not add any thing substantial.

But the point I would say either Windows Explorer and ZtreeWin.

ZtreeWin is a 32bit program that is sort of the old Xtree clone (but much better).

Ztree is not for every one, since it is not real GUI. The main difference between Ztree and Windows Explorer (and PowerDesk) is the extra configuration for reading Files.

While the Explorers read the Directory Tree only and read the files in a directory when you log down into a directory, Ztree has a mode that reads all the files on the Hard Drive at its start. Using this mode needs patient, the first start up of the program might take a minute or two since it might need to read a big drive with ten thousands of files. However once it read and stored the files in memory a lot of File related actions are much faster and precise then any of the Explorer types. Since it does not have to re-read anything, it is a terrific tools for comparison, mirroring, and backup of directories, as well as a savior when it come to find ?Junk? files on the computer.

As an example, you can sort by date/time and see one cumulative list of all files regardless of directory that were entered according to date and time.

It is shareware so you can give it a Try: ZtreeWin.

The lite version is free.
Since you are so insistence I decided to give it a try and spent the last 15 minutes giving it a try. The most noticeable thing is my Firewall Popping Up telling me that the program is trying to connect to a server out side of my system (probably calling Home).

No further try or comments from my side.

PD Pro 6. Not worth the difference but I always want the latest version so my kid can throw them away after I croak. ;)

I find that 6 is slow to load but my computers are pretty old now.

If you decide to go with PRO 6 you can get an upgrade price from VCOM and download it.

I've been using this for a while and it has never tried to communicate with anyone.

I have never had a firewall problem with xplore2 lite. I have double checked my software firewall settings and checked my log file for my firewall. No sign of xplore2 lite calling out of my system.

You may also want to try out the older version of xplore2. It is named 2xExplorer. This version looks something like the old Norton Commander program. In someways I like it better than the newer xplore2.

Check what adress it's accessing. It's probably just accessing your local network or something, just as Windows Explorer would do.
