Good string soloist

Mrvile

Right now all I listen to is rock, metal, punk, emo, all that stereotypical high school scum stuff, throw in a bit of techno. I want to try to broaden my musical tastes so I'm looking into adding some classical. Now I normally don't listen to classical music outside of some movie soundtracks, but I do play the violin and I like the sound of strings (violin, viola, cello). Can you guys recommend some good string soloists? Only one I can think of is Yoyo Ma (sp?). Nothing too happy sounding though, looking for more of a contemporary sound 😛

Thanks.

Man, there's a ton of great string players, especially for the violin.

My current favs include:
Joshua Bell
Sarah Chang
Midori
Anne-Sophie Mutter
Cho-Liang Lin

And of course the most well-known violinists with recordings that should be readily available include Itzhak Perlman, Jascha Heifetz, Pinchas Zukerman, and Isaac Stern. (although the quality may suffer due to older recordings for these guys)
