You may want to add in Canadian retailers as well.

NCIX Canada
Canada Computers
PC Village (Great deals every once in a while)

Good call, they had the q9450 for only 280 recently. They also have local pickup, making it especially good if you have one nearby.

Along those same lines you have Frys: http://www.frys.com / http://www.outpost.com they frequently have web specials. From what I've noticed they tend to have good storage deals.

Goddamit, I knew I was forgetting something when I accidentally deleted my post. Thanks for the Micro Center and Fry's suggestions.

Whats the current status of ClubIT? The web site is messed up, they do not answer the customer service line and emails are going unanswered. i wouldn't order from them if I was you.

I made a few purchases from ClubIT at the begining of the year. Everything was smooth and good email communication. A number of rebates were involved in the purchase, and in keeping with the spirit of this thread it was very much a best bang for the buck type of deal involving one new all purpose rig and a second budget system where I used an existing case/optical drive etc. I did use other vendors for some of the components to build these units and they are all on the list you have compiled I believe. I got every rebate and believe it or not Tiger Direct was great with the communication and the rebate for an OEM 2180 CPU. ClubIT was the only company that has not honored the advertised rebate eight months later. They do not answer the customer service line, emails go unanswered and now I cannot log in to my account for the on line support. I know they shuttered the doors a few months back but an investor came in at the 11th hour and they reopened under new ownership. It looks like they couldn't make a go of it. Too bad I liked shopping with them.,

Yeah I'm not sure why they have two URLs but its just one site, they use outpost.com on the site itself, I think frys is just a redirect. You can collapse it to just one entry

Similarly, wouldn't it be nice if one could only add a retailer to the list if he/she had a positive experience with the vendor in the past?

Well I've added stores here that I've heard others have had good experiences with. I have personally bought from Frys, Newegg, ZipZoomFly, and TigerDirect.

There's a bit more for Canadian retailers.

Direct Canada and TD Direct. Those I believe are the same company as NCIX.

I've some resellers to add, most of which I have ordered from at least twice in the past two years.

Computer Geeks - Great for surplus-type and last generation components, generic and debranded white box type stuff, but has some first-line branded items as well. Grey market notice: many products are warrantied only by Geeks, not the manufacturer. Geeks is usually good at indicating whether the warranty or support is provided by them or the manufacturer. However, Geeks often neglects to specify whether an OEM optical drive or motherboard will accept the 'public release' firmware/BIOS from the manufacturer or uses a custom OEM firmware/BIOS (e.g. Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.).

3B Tech - A lot like Geeks, really. Some new, surplus, refurbished, quantity discounts. Free ground shipping on all items.

Outlet PC - Another generic and surplus oriented reseller. Lots of odds and ends, cables, adapters, accessories, parts, etc.

Star Micro - Yet another generic and surplus oriented reseller but sometimes has good prices on new processors. Great place to find older components such as Pentium III, P4, and Socket 754 processors, memory modules, et. al. If you're ever in the market for mobile processors, check here.

Purplus Software - Killer deals on legit OEM, academic, and sometimes even retail software.

Computers Worth - Another discount software reseller, much like Purplus. Has some different deals on different titles.

This is a great thread. Just to be clear, Club IT is definitely out of business--we could take that one off the list.
