Good "starters" Home Theater In A Box???

Looking for a decent system, nothing great. I just want a little BOOM out of my TV as opposed to the tiny TV speakers. Something around $200 would be the win.

Anyone?

EDIT: Does HTIAB mean it comes with a DVD player? I dont want that, just speakers and the decoder thingie.

Save up a little extra & spend $400 for a Kenwood HTB-505.

For a little more you can get a pretty decent Onkyo system, though I don't know the model number.

Receiver + 5 speakers + sub, DD/DTS capable, pretty nice little setup for the money.

Yeah, I think you're talking about the refurb'ed HTS-650. They're not running a discount on it anymore, it used to be $330 or so. Now it's $395, but you get a free DVD player with it.

Dwell, I'd suggest saving $100-200 more. The difference will be well worth it. The Kenwood Viper noted is a great starter system, as is the Onkyo setup.

I just bought a sony dream system DAVFC7, hasn't arrived yet. But I've paid for it, it sounded pretty damn good in the store. I didn't need something that destroys the house (I live in an apartment) but it gets pretty damn loud

edit: Linky

There is a Toshiba system at costco right now goign for around 200, 300 retail.

EDIT: I'm in the same boat though. My xbox plays all the discs I want it too so the DVD player is just wastign room. I have one of those Onkyo systems for 99 where the receiver is built into the sub but looking to upgrade.

As far as speakers go, you could do something similar to what I did. Picked up a set of KLH speakers for around $60 (if I remember correctly). They gave me exactly what I wanted: surround. Are they kick-ass? Nope. Do they give me DD/DTS/etc? Yup.

From there, spend $150 on some DD/DTS receiver and you're set, at least until you want more.

Hmm. Options are limited it seems. The thing that gets me is most of the systems I am looking at have DVD players included. I dont really need another DVD player, I hardly use the one I have now.

Bought one of my friends a $99 HTIB set from Circuit City for his birthday. It's actually not that bad.
