I built a computer a few years back w/ a P4 1.6Ghz processor in it w/ a ASUS P4S533 mobo in it.. well the mobo died, and i was wondering what would be a good "upgrade" on a mobo, for less than 50$ if possible.... i appreciate any suggestions.. i know i can send the ASUS back in and get it replaced, but I'm just asking to see if there is any mobo that would be worth "upgrading" to.. thanks again...

edit: oh yeah, 512MB PC2100, GF2 GTS Pro, nothing fancy, just a simple computer needed for internet, word processing...

I would look for reviews on current boards, I highly recommend ECS, my last 2 Motherboards have been through them. Very inexpensive but high quality and stable. The key is find out which chipset is the best and most stable, then find you an ECS board with that chipset on their website. Then search pricewatch for the cheapest one for sale. Stay away from generic crap.
Actually, I think I will start asking, I got the upgrade itch:)

I would stay away from ECS and PC Chips if your for looking for smething to last. Tough to hit the $50 or less range.

I would be looking at a used I865 board - Albatron or something in that area. I personally have bought a used I865 M/B here for $60 shipped and a used I875 M/B for $55 shipped. Both were super buys.

IMHO

Find a board based on the Intel 845E or 845PE if you can. 845 was a very solid chipset. If you dont mind used, look on the FS/T board. I'm sure there are several.
